Treatment options

Options offered by Dr. Doke at Midland Women’s Clinic

Dr. Doke, OB/GYN at Midland Women’s Clinic, offers medical and surgical care for bladder leaks, urgency, prolapse and other pelvic floor problems. Which option, if any, is right for you depends on your evaluation.

Medical treatment

For many bladder and pelvic floor concerns, the first step is medical treatment. After an evaluation, Dr. Doke can talk with you about non-surgical options that may fit your symptoms, alongside or instead of Emsella.

Midurethral sling for stress urinary incontinence

For leaks with coughing, sneezing, laughing or exercise, a midurethral sling is a minimally invasive procedure that places a narrow strip of material beneath the urethra to support it during those moments of pressure.

Prolapse surgery

Pelvic organ prolapse is when the bladder, uterus, rectum or top of the vagina drops from its normal position, which can cause a bulge, pressure or heaviness. Surgery restores support, and the right approach depends on the type and degree of prolapse and your goals.

Robotic-assisted prolapse repair

For some types of prolapse, repair can be performed with the Da Vinci® robotic surgical system, which lets the surgeon operate through small incisions. Whether a robotic approach suits you is decided together at your evaluation.

Bulkamid® urethral bulking

Bulkamid is a soft hydrogel injected into the wall of the urethra to help it close more fully, with no incisions. It is used for stress urinary incontinence in women whose urethra does not close as firmly as it should (intrinsic sphincter deficiency), including stress-predominant mixed incontinence (Bulkamid safety information).

Axonics® sacral neuromodulation

A small implanted device sends mild pulses to the sacral nerves, which help control the bladder and bowel. Axonics therapy is indicated for overactive bladder symptoms (urgency, frequency and urge incontinence) and urinary retention when more conservative treatments haven’t worked or weren’t tolerated, and for chronic fecal (bowel) incontinence in patients who have failed or are not candidates for more conservative treatments. A test phase comes first, and the device is placed only if the test works for you (Axonics safety information).

Every treatment has benefits and risks, and results vary. No specific result is guaranteed. Dr. Doke will talk through the options, risks and recovery with you at your evaluation.
