Confidence, from the core of you
Emsella is an FDA-cleared, non-invasive chair used for the treatment of urinary incontinence, as well as other urinary and pelvic floor concerns: leaks when you laugh, sneeze or exercise, urgency and frequency, and pelvic floor weakness after childbirth, through perimenopause and menopause, or simply with age. You stay fully clothed for a 28-minute session, then get on with your day. At Midland Women’s Clinic, serving Midland, Odessa and the Permian Basin.

For women at every stage of life
Emsella is used for the treatment of urinary incontinence, as well as other urinary and pelvic floor concerns. It is FDA-cleared for urinary incontinence and pelvic floor strengthening.
Leaks with a sneeze, laugh or workout
Stress leaks when you cough, sneeze, laugh, run, jump or lift.
Urinary incontinence →Urgency and frequency
A sudden, strong need to go, or rushing to make it in time.
Urinary incontinence →After childbirth
Pelvic floor weakness after pregnancy and delivery, once your OB/GYN clears you.
Postpartum pelvic floor →Perimenopause & menopause
Hormonal changes can weaken pelvic floor support, and leaks or urgency often become more common.
Perimenopause & menopause →With age
Pelvic floor muscles weaken over time, like other muscles. Emsella strengthens them while you sit, fully clothed.
Pelvic floor therapy →After surgery
Pelvic floor strengthening as part of recovery, with your surgeon’s written clearance.
Post-op recovery →Also see intimate wellness, or pair Emsella with Emsculpt NEO for core strength and tone. Results vary. Not for everyone. See contraindications.
Bladder confidence through midlife
During perimenopause and menopause, falling estrogen and age affect the muscles and tissues that support the bladder, and many women in their 40s, 50s and beyond notice more leaks when they sneeze or exercise, or more urgency. Emsella strengthens the pelvic floor muscles with thousands of Kegel-like contractions in each 28-minute session, and it is FDA-cleared for the treatment of urinary incontinence. It is not hormone therapy and does not treat other menopause symptoms; for those, talk with your provider. For a medical evaluation, call Midland Women’s Clinic at (432) 699-2370 to schedule with your provider.

Thousands of Kegel-like contractions, while you sit
Your pelvic floor is a hammock of muscles that supports your bladder and pelvic organs. Childbirth, surgery, hormonal changes and age can weaken it, which often shows up as leaking when you laugh, cough, run or lift.
Emsella uses BTL’s patented HIFEM® (high-intensity focused electromagnetic) technology to trigger thousands of Kegel-like pelvic floor contractions in one session. These contractions help re-educate and strengthen weak pelvic floor muscles and restore neuromuscular control (BTL).
- About 28–30 minutes per session
- Stay fully clothed
- No needles, no anesthesia, no downtime
Backed by published data, not hype
Figures below come from BTL, the device maker, and from a peer-reviewed clinical study. They are averages from study groups, not a prediction of any individual result.
The 2019 study enrolled women with stress, urge or mixed incontinence who received six 28-minute sessions, two per week; participants reported no pain, downtime or adverse events. Read the full study (open access). BTL figures marked “data on file” are published on BTL’s official Emsella page.

Who should not have Emsella
Emsella is not right for everyone. Treatment is not performed if you are:
- Pregnant, or might be pregnant
- Living with a pacemaker, defibrillator, neurostimulator, drug pump or other electronic implant
- Living with metal implants in or near the pelvis or hips, including some IUDs
- Being treated for cancer in the pelvic area, or have a fever, active infection, or recent pelvic surgery without your surgeon’s clearance
This is not a complete list. BTL notes that treatment should not be applied if you have electronic or metal implants (BTL safety information).
Medical care when you need it
Emsella is one option, not a substitute for a medical evaluation. See a physician first if you notice blood in your urine, pain or burning, fever, a sudden change in bladder habits, or a bulge or pressure in the vagina.
For a medical evaluation, call Midland Women’s Clinic at (432) 699-2370 to schedule with your provider.
Specialized pelvic floor care, right here in Midland
Not every pelvic floor problem is solved with Emsella. For some women, medical treatment, a midurethral sling, prolapse surgery (including robotic-assisted repair), Bulkamid or Axonics therapy is the right next step. These are offered by Dr. Doke, OB/GYN at Midland Women’s Clinic, so there’s no need to leave town.

What is Emsella used for?
Emsella is used for the treatment of urinary incontinence, as well as other urinary and pelvic floor concerns, such as bladder control, urgency, frequency, leaks when you laugh, sneeze, cough or exercise, pelvic floor weakness after childbirth, during perimenopause and menopause or with age, and pelvic floor strengthening. It is FDA-cleared for the treatment of urinary incontinence; it is not FDA-cleared for sexual function or other conditions. Results vary.
Source: BTL Emsella
Is Emsella FDA-cleared?
Yes. Emsella is an FDA-cleared device (FDA clearance is different from FDA approval). It is cleared for electromagnetic stimulation of the pelvic floor muscles to rehabilitate weak pelvic muscles and restore neuromuscular control for the treatment of male and female urinary incontinence.

Which types of urinary incontinence has Emsella been studied for?
The 2019 clinical study included women with stress incontinence (leaks with coughing, laughing or exercise), urge incontinence (sudden, strong need to go) and mixed incontinence. The largest average improvement in that study was in mixed incontinence, at about 70%. New, worsening or painful bladder symptoms should be evaluated by a physician first.

How is Emsella different from Kegel exercises?
Emsella uses HIFEM technology to produce thousands of Kegel-like pelvic floor contractions in a single session, without you having to perform them. Kegels and pelvic floor physical therapy are still valuable, and many women use them alongside Emsella.

How soon after having a baby can I start Emsella?
Emsella is not used during pregnancy. After delivery, wait until your own OB/GYN has cleared you, which is usually discussed at your postpartum checkup. BTL reports that 59% of postpartum women have decreased pelvic floor strength.

Can Emsella help with bladder leaks during perimenopause or menopause?
Many women notice more leaks or urgency in perimenopause and menopause, when falling estrogen and age affect the muscles and tissues that support the bladder. Emsella strengthens the pelvic floor muscles and is FDA-cleared for the treatment of urinary incontinence, so it can be an option at any stage of life. It is not hormone therapy and does not treat other menopause symptoms. Results vary.

Can I have Emsella after pelvic or gynecologic surgery?
Possibly. Our Post-Op Pelvic Floor Recovery package requires written clearance from your surgeon before your first session.
How long do Emsella results last?
In the 2019 study, average symptom scores were still improving at the 3-month follow-up, and BTL reports a 68% improvement in incontinence symptoms at 6 months. Results vary, and some women choose periodic maintenance sessions.

Does Emsella treat sexual dysfunction?
No. Emsella is FDA-cleared for urinary incontinence, not for sexual dysfunction. Many women value a stronger pelvic floor as part of their overall intimate wellness. If you have concerns about sexual health, pain or arousal, please see a physician: call Midland Women’s Clinic at (432) 699-2370.
Who should not have Emsella?
Emsella is not performed during pregnancy or for people with electronic implants such as pacemakers, or metal implants in or near the treatment area. See the full contraindications list on our medical disclaimer page.
